These images are a lot of fun to put together. These were usually created to serve both as a loading screen image during early alpha and beta builds of Spellbreak as well as promotional images for use by our marketing department.
The characters, environment, and VFX on display in these images was created by the team at Proletariat.
My role was to use existing characters, vfx, and environment art to create a compelling image as quickly as possible. The workflow would typically include posing characters (either creating custom poses in Maya or finding a specific frame in the actual game animations), staging the image in-engine, manipulating the placement of environment assets to improve composition and storytelling, placing vfx, adjusting lighting and post-processing, capturing a hi-res screenshot, compositing and painting over the image in Photoshop. The turnaround time for these images was usually a day per shot.
